Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) is a combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis. It is a collaborative process where we concentrate on looking forward not back and solutions to problems rather than dwelling on the events of the past. We focus on the present and the future in a positive way, rewiring your brain to build new healthy patterns of behaviour and break negative and self-sabotaging thinking cycles that may have been holding you back for years.

Hypnosis (or ‘trance’ as it is also referred) is a very natural state. In fact we go into trance many times a day for e.g. watching a movie, listening to great music, on a run, driving our car etc. Hypnosis can be described as a guided day dream; a state of focused attention achieved through deep relaxation and positive visualization. In this relaxed state, your mind is more responsive to beneficial suggestions, designed to help you change unhelpful thought patterns. You are aware of everything that is going on and remain in complete control.

Hypnosis is all about changing our conscious awareness. Our brain wave activity fluctuates all the time, particularly as we enter the different phases of when we go to sleep. When I guide you into relaxation and mental imagery it can encourage you to go into a trance state, which causes a natural shift in our brainwave patterns. This means that we might shift from being in a fully alert mental state (like when we are hectic and busy working during the day - as shown by beta brain wave activity) into other states. As we are guided into deeper levels of relaxation, the brain demonstrates more alpha and theta wave activity, where we feel calmer and more relaxed but can also visualise images and reflect on different ideas that may be useful to us.

This is why Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be so beneficial, because it combines powerful solution-focused discussions, followed by encouraging a relaxing trance state so that the ideas and solutions discussed can then be explored and applied by the brain to create significant positive changes and transformations in our lives.

No one can be hypnotised against their will. These suggestions and moments of reprogramming only work if someone wants it to.  Clinical hypnotherapist Traci Blank explains -

"Everyone has the ability to go into hypnosis but three things have to be in place to make it happen: desire, you have to want to go into hypnosis; belief, you have to believe you can go into hypnosis; and safety, you have to feel safe in the environment you are in and with the person leading you, When all these things are in place hypnosis can happen."

"Therapy and myself haven’t always gone smoothly, as someone who is constantly overwhelmed with anxiety I of course had instant doubts about engaging with Lauren’s Hypnotherapy. You can go to all the therapists in the world and take all the anti-anxiety or antidepressants prescribed , but nothing will work until you can listen to your mind and tell your self how to heal yourself.
